scraps and white, retazos de colores

I finished this top made with scraps of batik fabric I bought at a garage sale in Davis, CA 4 years ago. They were various sizes but chose to make the blocks 7 inches wide and added pieces to some of the batik strips, or let them be short. I like the way it looks with all the colors and the contrasting white fabric. I wish I felt confident to quilt it with the darning foot. I don't know...T

I made a mini quilt following Lady Harvatine instructions. It worked out nicely. This is my first try at working without measuring, it was fun. I loved how the white fabric works. i had bought 12 yards for a dyieng experiment but now I am tempted to use it for contrast. I selected reds and oranges form my stash to try an improvised log cabin lap quilt. My new year resolution was to finish an UFO but as usual I keep finding new things to try.

Treasures - tesoros

We just came back form Barra de Valizas, Rocha. We rented a house form a local resident and to my suprise I found this quilt on one of the beds. Quilting in Uruguay is not a past time or an art, is something mothers and grandmothers made do to warm up our winters. This one is made of pieces of corduroy (probably old pants) and a wool fabric (probably rests of a moth eaten poncho). On the background you can see the dunes that form part of a national park. You can walk 4 o 5 miles past the dines to arrive to Cabo Polonio where there is a reserve of sea lions and seals.

just for fun
